Tornado outlook “grim” today for parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas

Large tornadoes are possible in a sizable portion of central and western Kansas, most of western Oklahoma and parts of northern Texas, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

The dashed lines represent a 10 percent or greater chance of an EF-2 to EF-5 tornado within 25 miles of a given point. Wichita is on the eastern edge of the 10 percent zone. The 15 percent zone stretches north to just southeast of Dodge City and just southwest of Greensburg. Keep in mind, a 5 percent chance for tornadoes is considered substantial.

In his weather blog “Meteorological Musings,” AccuWeather Senior Vice President Mike Smith sums it up this way: “More tornadoes today. The entire outlook is grim.”
