Wichita weather: Showers and thunderstorms possible later

Spring is a time for showers and thunderstorms in the Sunflower State, and after a chilly start May seems eager to make up for lost time: showers and thunderstorms are possible for each of the next several days.

Highs today are expected to reach the low 70s under mostly cloudy skies, forecasters say. South winds will be light, occasionally touching double digits. Chances for rain will be slight during the day and increase later in the evening. Temperatures will only drop to the mid-50s, forecasters say, with south-southeasterly winds gaining strength into the upper teens.

Wednesday could be stormy late in the Wichita area, forecasters say, with highs in the mid-70s. Winds will be robust, blowing steadily in the 20s out of the southeast and gusting to more than 30 miles an hour.

Overnight lows Wednesday will be in the upper 50s, forecasters say, with chances for showers and thunderstorms persisting.
