Temperature extremes abound as strong cold front sweeps through the Great Plains

A strong cold front that brought snow flakes described as “mashed potatoes” in Denver and could dump a foot of snow on parts of Wisconsin is bringing some dramatic temperature contrasts to the Great Plains today.

Eastern Iowa was in the 80s, while western Iowa was in the 30s. In Kansas, Wichita was in the 70s while Goodland was in the mid-30s.

After sizzling at 91 on Tuesday afternoon, Dodge City was shivering in the upper 30s – with north winds blasting at 40 miles an hour.
