State emergency management officials to host two Twitter chats Friday

The Kansas Department of Emergency Management will host two live chats on Twitter Friday about severe weather.

The chats will be at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., said Jane Welch, a spokeswoman for the adjutant general’s department. Twitter users can go online and look for @KansasEmergency or use their smartphone to join a dialogue about severe weather and what the public can do to be prepared.

The chats will last for one hour apiece.

Wichita weather: A teasing taste of spring

Much warmer temperatures are on tap for the Wichita area Thursday as spring makes a cameo appearance for at least the next few days.

Highs will vault all the way into the 60s under sunny skies, forecasters say. The infamous Kansas wind will flex its muscles, with south winds steady in the teens and gusting to about 30 miles an hour.

Overnight lows will dip to the upper 30s under mostly clear skies, but clouds will begin to move into the area on Friday. Highs will be in the low 60s, forecasters say, with more southerly winds in the teens and gusting to more than 30 miles an hour.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Friday night and stretching through the weekend.
