Lightning strikes the Vatican hours after Pope Benedict resigns

In case you missed it, here’s video of a lightning bolt striking the Vatican hours after Pope Benedict XVI announced he was resigning – the first pope to step down in 600 years.

Wags may pronounce it a divine response to the pope’s decision. Others may consider it appropriate, since the Catholic Church has been a lightning rod on many issues.

Wichita weather: Sunshine and 50s

Wichita can expect a sunny day with highs in the 50s today, forecasters say.

Winds out of the northwest will give the day some bite, though, with gusts topping 25 miles an hour.

Lows tonight will be in the mid-20s under partly cloudy skies, forecasters say. Friday will be colder, with highs only touching the 40s. Sunshine will persist, but north winds topping 20 miles an hour at times will make it a crisp day.

The weekend should be warmer, forecasters say, with highs in the 40s on Saturday and the upper 50s on Sunday.
