Dust storm drops visibility near zero in western Kansas

A dust storm is pounding a large section of western Kansas this afternoon.

Visibility was reported near zero at about 4 p.m. Central Standard Time in Greeley County, 13 miles south of Tribune. The storm is so large and so strong it’s visible on satellite.

Wichita weather: Temperatures climb near record

Temperatures are expected to surge into the mid-60s in the Wichita area today, forecasters say.

The record high for January 11 in Wichita is 70, set just six years ago. Skies will be partly sunny, with south winds gusting above 30 miles an hour.

Overnight lows will slide all the way to the upper 20s, forecasters say, with winds shifting to the north and gusting to 25 miles an hour as a cold front arrives.

The weekend will be much colder, with highs only in the 30s under partly cloudy skies.
