A wintry image from Wichita’s holiday snow

Here’s a picturesque view of Wichita after the snow fell earlier this week, snapped by photographer Darrin Hackney.

A map showing snowfall amounts on New Year’s Eve

Most of the Wichita metropolitan area received less than an inch of snow on the final night of 2012 and the first morning of 2013, as this map produced by the National Weather Service shows.

Wichita received a combined total of 2.2 inches of snow from the bands that passed through the metro area New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. This map shows snowfall totals as of 7 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Wichita weather: Another cold day looms

A cold air mass maintains its grip on the Heartland today, meaning highs won’t climb to freezing in the Wichita area, forecasters say.

Skies will be sunny, with light winds staying primarily in single digits. Lows tonight should drop into the low teens under mostly clear skies. Winds will be light and variable.

Friday should see temperatures start to rebound, forecasters say, with highs climbing into the upper 30s. Winds out of the south-southwest will help hoist temperatures and occasionally reach double digits.
