Wichita weather: Rain moves in

Wichita appears likely to see its first precipitation of the month later today, forecasters say.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the region this afternoon and tonight. Highs are projected to reach the upper 50s under mostly cloudy skies. South winds in the teens will intensify into the 20s, with gusts topping 30 miles an hour.

Depending on the storm system’s track and speed, a quarter-inch or perhaps a half-inch could fall in Wichita, according to the National Weather Service.

Light rain and patchy drizzle should continue through most of the night, forecasters say. Lows are expected to bottom out in the low 40s, with winds remaining robust out of the south and gusting above 30 miles an hour.

Sunshine should return over the weekend, with highs in the mid-50s on Saturday and the upper 40s on Sunday.
