Tornado chaser and weather photographer to discuss experiences at Watermark Books on Friday

Greg Johnson documented several violent storms during the record-breaking tornado season of 2011. Some of those images and experiences have been turned into a book – “Blown Away: A year through the lens of the tornado hunter.”

Johnson will be at Watermark Books and Cafe in Wichita for a book signing and presentation Friday. The event begins at 7 p.m.

Johnson photographed dozens of storms, driving inside active tornadoes in a specially outfitted “tornado truck.” He’ll discuss what residents of cities and towns hit by the tornadoes have learned and how recovery efforts are proceeding.

There is no charge for the event.

Johnson will also appear at 7 p.m. Sunday at Ad Astra Books and Coffee House in Salina.

Wichita weather: Sunny and 60s

Another pleasant day is in the forecast for the Wichita area today.

Highs are projected to reach the low 60s, forecasters say. Skies should be mostly sunny and winds will be light out of the south.

Lows tonight should dip into the mid-30s under mostly clear skies, forecasters say, and Friday will offer more sunshine and more 60s. Winds will be light and variable in the morning before strengthening into the teens from the south. Gusts could reach 20 miles an hour.
