The 80s of October take a final bow today – and may set another record in the process.
The record high for October 24 in Wichita is 89, set in 1939. The National Weather Service is predicting a high of 87, fueled by south winds gusting to nearly 40 miles an hour.
The temperature reached 91 in Wichita on Tuesday, breaking the record for October 23 of 89 set in 1991.
But a cold front pushes into northwest Kansas today and will send temperatures retreating in Wichita throughout the day Thursday. Wichita’s high temperature on Thursday will come just after midnight, with readings falling throughout the day.
Highs on Friday are expected to only be in the 40s, forecasters say.
