How much did it rain overnight?

Were you awakened by the lightning, thunder and rain showers that moved through the Wichita metropolitan area early Wednesday morning? Some parts of the region received a hearty helping of moisture, as this map prepared by the National Weather Service indicates.

Officially, Wichita recorded about a half-inch of rain, but as you can tell from the map amounts varied widely across the region. That’s pretty common with thunderstorms, which can unload over a small geographic area as they pass and cycle through their life span.

Wichita weather: Chances for thunderstorms arrive

There’s a slight chance for thunderstorms early this morning in the Wichita metropolitan area, forecasters say.

Highs under mostly cloudy skies are expected to climb into the low 90s. Winds will be light and variable before intensifying out of the northwest into the teens.

Slight chances for showers and thunderstorms arrive tonight and persist into Thursday, forecasters say. Overnight lows will be in the mid-60s under partly cloudy skies. Winds will be out of the northeast in the teens.

Thursday should see highs in the 80s, with chances for rain climbing significantly Thursday night into Friday.
