Light rain just east of Wichita overnight

Wichita missed the latest round of showers, which sprinkled the eastern edge of the metropolitan area. But as this map from the National Weather Service shows, the accumulations were not substantial.

Wednesday reached 104…

……..in Wichita, hoisting the number of triple-digit days this year to 34.

But 100s don’t re-enter the forecast for the Wichita area until next Wednesday, so residents will welcome these cooler temperatures.

Wichita weather: Sunny skies, cooler temperatures

Wichita may have missed out on the rain Wednesday, but it won’t miss out on the much cooler temperatures trailing in the front’s wake.

Highs today will be in the low to mid-90s – in other words, about what they should be for this time of year – with sunny skies and north winds gusting to 20 miles an hour. Skies will be clear overnight with lows in the upper 60s.

Friday will be even cooler, forecasters say, with highs in the upper 80s under sunny skies. Northeast winds will tickle double digits.

The weekend will see a chance of showers on both days with highs in the low 90s.
