A dry May for Wichita

May is normally one of the wettest months of the year for Wichita, but 2012 didn’t follow the script. The city normally records about 4.5 inches of rain in May, but little more than half of that fell last month.

Not much rain in the Wichita area Sunday

Rumbles of thunder and a few flashes of lightning livened up Sunday afternoon in the Wichita area, but they didn’t translate into meaningful rainfall for a thirsty region.

Wichita weather: Sunny and hot

4 June, 20125:00 a.m.

Sunny skies and highs in the low 90s are in the forecast for the Wichita area today.

Winds should be comfortable, forecasters say, with northeast breezes staying in single digits. Lows under mostly clear skies will bottom out in the upper 60s, and Tuesday should be a little cooler.

Highs on Tuesday should be in the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies. Wednesday should offer more 80s and more sunshine, forecasters say, before another chance of showers arrives on Thursday.
