Wichita weather: Active weather pattern means several potentially stormy days

Showers and thunderstorms are possible in the Wichita area today and tonight as a potent storm system moves into Kansas.

Highs will only reach the upper 50s in Wichita today, forecasters say, with east-southeast winds climbing into the low teens. Lows will slip into the upper 40s, and Thursday will see temperatures climb into the mid- to upper 60s as chances for thunderstorms increase.

South-southeast winds will intensify during the day, climbing into the low 20s and gusting to more than 30 miles an hour. Thunderstorms remain likely in the Wichita area Thursday night, when lows will drop only into the upper 50s.

Strong and potentially dangerous storms are mostly likely Friday and Saturday in central south-central and southeast Kansas, the National Weather Service reports. Large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes will be possible with these storms. Stay tuned to conditions and updated forecasts for more information.
