Wichita weather: Showers to persist, especially in the morning

Rain is expected to continue through most of the morning today in the Wichita metropolitan area before easing to occasional sprinkles later in the day, forecasters say.

Highs will only reach the upper 40s under the heavy gray skies, with northeast winds in the teens and gusts reaching the mid-20s. Wichita could end up with between 2 and 3 inches of rain by the time the rain moves out, according to the local branch of the National Weather Service.

Lows tonight should dip to about freezing as skies gradually clear. Wednesday should be sunny but cool, with highs in the low 50s and robust north-northeast winds gusting well into the 20s.
