The relentless heat wave shows no sign of easing in southern Kansas this week. In fact, forecasters say, it’s going to intensify early this week.
Today’s high could reach 107, and Tuesday could hit 110 or 111 in Wichita. An excessive heat warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for dozens of counties in eastern and central Kansas until 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Wichita metropolitan area is included in that warning.
The heat index today could climb to 112 in Wichita, with light southwest winds climbing into the teens and gusting to about 20 miles an hour. Overnight lows will stay in the low 80s, and Tuesday will see southwest winds strengthen to the upper teens.
Highs will remain in the triple digits throughout the week, forecasters say.
