Wichita weather: Showers and thunderstorms later today

A thirsty region looks to finally get some rain as showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the Wichita area later today.

Good chances for rain arrive late this afternoon and evening, forecasters say, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Winds will be out of the east and southeast in the low teens. Thunderstorms tonight could produce hail as large as golf balls, forecasters say, so be alert to watches and warnings.

More showers are possible overnight, when lows will only dip a few degrees into the mid-50s. Friday should be warmer, forecasters say, with highs in the low 70s under mostly cloudy skies.

The weekend offers more chances for rain, with highs in the mid-60s Saturday and upper 50s on Easter Sunday.
