Raise your hand…..

…….if you ignored the sirens for the statewide tornado drill and instead found yourself glued to the end of the KU-Oklahoma State game.

I know you’re out there.

Statewide tornado drill today

The statewide tornado drill will be held today at 1:30 p.m.

The drill, an annual part of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kansas, was postponed from Tuesday because of the rainy weather. The drill is not held on cloudy days because authorities don’t want to confuse residents into thinking there is an actual tornado threat.

Students in schools across the Sunflower State will practice what they will do if a tornado warning is issued. Weather officials say this is a perfect opportunity for businesses and families to review what they would do if a tornado threatens.

Wichita weather: Sunny and a bit warmer

The sunshine that finally broke through late Wednesday afternoon will continue today in the Wichita metropolitan area, with highs climbing into the low to mid-60s.

Light northerly winds will shift to the west and then the south. That will help fuel a distinct warm-up which will continue on Friday, forecasters say, when highs could touch 70. Overnight lows tonight will dip to the mid-30s.

Saturday should be pleasant as well, with highs of about 60, forecasters say, but a chance of showers returns to the forecast for Sunday.
