It’s not your imagination – the day’s getting colder

Wichita has already hit its high temperature for the day – and that came before dawn.

The mercury is on a steady slide from that 54 recorded at 4:36 a.m., and it’s going to bottom out in the low 20s tonight, National Weather Service meteorologist Vanessa Pearce said.

Wind chills will flirt with the single digits, thanks to gusty north-northwest winds, and they’ll persist on Tuesday.

Bundle up.

Wichita weather: A windy, cloudy Monday

With the holiday weekend now in the rear-view mirror, the work week gets off to a blustery start in Wichita.

Cloudy skies will eventually give way to sunshine, forecasters say, but there won’t be much of a warmup from the overnight lows. Highs will touch 50, only a handful of degrees warmer than the night-time temperatures.

Winds will be robust, blowing steadily out of the south in the upper teens, then shifting around to the north-northwest, forecasters say. Gusts will top 30 miles an hour.

Overnight lows will slip into the mid-20s, with northerly winds remaining gusty. Tuesday will be sunny but chilly, forecasters say, with northerly winds topping 20 miles an hour and highs only touching 40. Gusts should again top 30 mph.
