Wichita weather: A rainy Friday for metro area

Wichita can expect a welcome soaking today from the storm system crawling across the Sunflower State, forecasters say.

An inch or two of rain should fall throughout the region, with locally heavier amounts possible. Because most of Kansas has been very dry for the past several weeks, flooding is not considered a threat.

Temperatures won’t recover much from overnight lows, staying pretty steady in the upper 40s to low 50s, forecasters say. Rain should continue into the evening, with winds shifting from the east to the north and increasing from speeds measurable with one hand to steady breezes touching 20 miles an hour. Gusts will even approach 30 mph.

Areas of central Kansas could see a dusting of snow on grassy areas later tonight as temperatures fall, forecasters say. But the weekend should be mostly sunny and dry, with highs in the low 50s.
