The end is in sight for one of the strongest heat waves in years in Wichita, forecasters say, with a cold front arriving in time for the weekend.
But two more days of triple-digit heat remain, with highs expected to hit 103 or more. The heat index may approach 110 in the region today and Friday, the National Weather Service cautions.
An excessive heat warning for central and eastern Kansas remains in effect until 9 p.m. Friday.
