An excessive heat warning is in effect for the Wichita metropolitan area from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, as dangerous heat continues to broil the region.
Temperatures could match or break the record high of 108 today, forecasters say. The heat index, which is a measure of how it feels outside, could hit 110.
South-southwesterly winds will be gusting into the mid-20s, bringing up more hot, dry air from the desert southwest. Those same winds vaulted Monday’s high to 108, breaking the record for the date by two degrees.
A slight chance of showers arrives Wednesday and Thursday, bringing with it cooler temperatures. But Wednesday’s forecast still calls for highsin th triple digits.
