The heat wave that has defined the latter portion of July in Kansas will be intensifying over the next several days in the Wichita area.
Highs today should reach the upper 90s in the metropolitan area, with the heat index climbing above 105, according to the National Weather Service. Southerly winds will be steady in the teens, with gusts of more than 20 miles an hour.
Overnight lows will be in the mid-70s, and then Saturday should see clouds popping up and bringing a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms – much like the metro area saw on Thursday. Highs should once again reach the upper 90s.
Triple digits are forecast most of next week as August arrives.
