A heat advisory remains in effect for most of today in the Wichita area as the season’s first heat wave remains firmly in place.
The advisory extends until 7 p.m. for more than 20 counties in central and southeast Kansas, including the Wichita metropolitan area. The heat index is projected to climb to 105 degrees today in the region, forecasters say.
Highs in the Wichita area are expected to climb to the upper 90s, with southerly winds gusting to more than 30 mph. Overnight lows should stay in the mid-70s, and then Tuesday’s highs could touch the century mark.
