Monday’s tornado threat intensifies for Wichita area

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the severe weather threat for Monday to moderate for southcentral and southeast Kansas, along with a small portion of northcentral Oklahoma.

The SPC’s accompanying outlook states “long-track strong tornadoes will be possible…particularly from Oklahoma portion of I-40/44 northward into southcentral/southern Kansas during the early evening.”

Residents of the Wichita metropolitan area should be particularly alert and prepared to seek shelter quickly Monday afternoon and evening.

    It never fails— it appears almost every year the River Festival starts severe weather hits the area from two to three days of the week. Move the festival to another time—-maybe the first week in June?

    Reading all the projections I’m begginning to think that even posting this article won’t jinx the set-up.

    So, for the most of us it means if you like shows on Monday Evening on 3,10,12 you’re not watching them…but someone is losing a house tomorrow.

    This is exactly what they were saying early in the day on April 26, 1991. Haysville, McConnell, Greenwich Heights, Andover, and parts in between.

    :Look outside. Its cloudy and 50 degrees. It has to warm up alot before we even talk about sever wz/ Plus dryline is supposed to be east of wichita.

    Much ado about nuttin! Over hype of this kind leads to ppl not listening when the real threat exists. Weather forecasting is a guess in large part and forecasters should never build such a fever until the weather actually warrants it.

    you really should not be on the computer during a thunderstorm if you value your hard drive. I am not in Wichita now, but if I were, I would not be writing this.
