Showers will persist in the Wichita metropolitan area, forecasters say, with highs in the upper 50s and variable winds.
Winds will shift from the south to the west, ranging from steady breezes in the low teens to gusts of more than 20 miles an hour. There should be a break in the rain late today and much of Wednesday before another round of showers arrives late Wednesday, forecasters say.
Wichita had recorded 1.21 inches of rain as of 7 a.m. Tuesday, National Weather Service meteorologist Vanessa Pearce said, but the soil was so dry in the region no flooding has been reported – even in low-lying areas that can fill up quickly, she said.
Higher rainfall totals were reported north and northeast of Wichita, including 1.64 inches seven miles northeast of Wichita, 1,52 inches next to Park City and 1.47 inches at Valley Center.
