Wintry blast arrives today for Wichita area

A wintry blast the likes of which Wichita hasn’t seen in more than a decade arrives later today.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory covering most of Kansas – including the Wichita area – until sometime Thursday. The advisory lasts until 6 a.m. Thursday in southcentral Kansas, and until 6 p.m. in Thursday in northern Kansas.

Light freezing drizzle is possible in the Wichita area this morning, changing over to snow this afternoon as the colder air arrives. Dangerously cold wind chills are expected as strong north winds follow the arrival of the snow.

Perhaps an inch of snow will fall in the Wichita area, with more snow in northern Kansas.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 30s today, then fall dramatically as the front arrives. Lows will drop to the low single digits in Wichita tonight. Wind chills could drop to -30 in the region, forecasters caution.

A wind chill advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday until noon on Friday.

Highs Thursday may not reach double digits in Wichita, and dangerous wind chills should persist into Friday.

There’s no way I’m getting out in that weather. Thank God I don’t live outdoors.

Glad that I live in the 21st century with technology like coats, hats, wool, etc. Glad I don’t live in Siberia/Canada/Alaska where this would be considered warm weather (with 10 feet of snow).

Good Lord made seven mistakes….snow, ice, frigid temps, high temps, humidity and strong winds. Oh, make that 8 for all the criminal fools in the world. Oooops….let’s go for a total of 10 to include wars all the idiot politicians’ in our local, county and national governments. Ahhhhh, let’s go for the unlucky grand total of 13 to add crooked, greedy corporations and executives, hunger and deprevation. Of course, that is Utopian philosophy to wish it were not true.

My husband and I live in a house with no heat. We began the process of applying for an emergency loan through the city of wichita to get central heat in August. We have since been put off and turned in every direction. Basically, we’re at a standstill. this weather could not come at a worse time : (
