After yet another cold night – with lows in the mid-teens – Wichita will see its warmest temperatures of the week today, forecasters say.
Highs should reach the upper 30s today, with light southerly breezes helping to hoist the temperatures. The Wichita metropolitan area’s chances of basking in the relative warmth of nearly 40 degrees is helped by the absence of snow cover, which is blanketing most of the rest of the state.
That snow absorbs a lot of energy as it melts, blunting significant jumps in temperature – particularly at this time of year, when days are so short.
The warm-up should continue through the weekend, with highs in the 40s. But forecasters warn there’s a chance of freezing drizzle in the region Saturday morning and again Saturday night.
