The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a significant weather alert for Sedgwick, Butler, Chase, Cowley, Sumner and Greenwood counties this morning.
Heavy rains have reached Wichita, and winds of 50 miles an hour are anticipated with this line of thunderstorms.
The storms are providing challenges for the first day of school for students of Wichita public schools, as well as the morning commute.
