Storm chasers are converging on western Kansas…

…..today as thunderstorms fire up. With strong shear and growing atmospheric instability, the National Weather Service in Dodge City reports, a tornado or two can’t be ruled out.

Storms have already fired up along the dry line near Scott City and Garden City, and strong thunderstorms are moving into Kansas from Oklahoma south of Dodge City.

A chance of showers today in Wichita area

Thunderstorms are possible in the Wichita area today – and also for the next few days, forecasters say.

Highs will reach the low 70s today, with southeast winds gusting beyond 30 miles an hour.

The National Weather Service said the strongest chances for thunderstorms will be west of I-135 today and tonight. Limited instability should keep the storms from become severe.

More storms are possible in the region Friday and Saturday, forecasters say.
