It will be another warm day for Wichita today – perhaps not enough to set a record, as Thursday was, but still awfully pleasant for the first week of March.
Forecasters are calling for highs in the upper 70s under mostly cloudy skies in the metropolitan area. The record for March 6 is 80, set in 1925, so just a hiccup or two of extra warmth could make the record book sweat.
It will be another windy day – yeah, I know, hard to imagine in Kansas – with northerly winds in the teens shifting to the south as the day progresses and gusting up to 25 miles an hour.
Thunderstorms could bring badly needed moisture to the area on Saturday – along with some hail, forecasters say. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm Prediction Center still has the eastern half of Kansas under a slight risk for severe weather on Saturday.
