The sharp winds and dips below freezing in late October and early November may have Wichitans grumbling about the arrival of cold weather.
But this is nothing.
On Nov. 12, 1911, the mercury dropped to 9 degrees – the earliest occurrence of a reading in the single digits in the history of Wichita. Nearly 100 years later, it hasn’t been topped.

Hopefully it will remain a record for a long time to come! I’m not looking forward to getting out the heavy winter coats out of the closet.
