Those gray, drizzly skies Monday had cells of heavier rain embedded in them. Just ask residents of western Sedgwick County and west Wichita.
Officially, 1.19 inches of rain fell in Wichita. At least, that’s what fell at the official recording station at Mid-Continent Airport. Hardly a mile away, at the Wichita branch of the National Weather Service, more than 2 inches of rain fell.
Even more rain fell between Wichita and Goddard in Sedgwick County, as bands of rain kept rolling over the same area.
Monday’s rainfall pushes Wichita’s precipitation total for the year to 48.35 inches, a mere 2.13 inches from the city’s all-time record of 50.43 inches set in 1951.
