Brian Chambers of Eudora sent me this radar image of Gustav’s remnants as they delivered showers to the Kansas City metropolitan area this morning. He thinks it looks like a teddy bear. People I work with disagree with him.
“I swear no Photoshopping was involved, as I don’t even have that capability!” Brian wrote, adding that that the radar image was taken at 10:08 a.m.

Remember the line of showers that moved in reverse yesterday over Wichita? The National Weather Service recorded .11 of an inch at its official measuring site next to Mid-Continent Airport, but I’m convinced more than that fell downtown and in points east.
I’d love to hear what readers around Wichita recorded in their rain gauges from yesterday’s showers….
We’re used to Augusts that sizzle in Wichita. But when it comes to heat, this August fizzled.
In fact, Wichita set a record for most consecutive days with a high temperature below 90: 15. That topped by one the previous record set in 1961. All told, there were 19 days in August where the high didn’t reach 90.
Maybe that balances out those years when Wichita had 19 days with temperatures topping 100, eh? The average temperature of 77.8 degrees was a full two degrees cooler than normal – a substantial dip statistically.
Wichita’s wet year continues, too: 3 inches of rain fell in August, which was slightly above average for the year. That brings the total for the year to 34.31 inches, a whopping 12.31 inches above normal.
