The MIAA has shifted regions – going from the South Central region with the Texas-based Lone Star Conference to the Central region with the newly-formed Great American Conference and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Great American is comprised of teams from Arkansas and Oklahoma, and the Northern Sun is upper-Midwest all the way with nine Minnesota schools, four schools in the Dakotas and 1 each in Iowa and Nebraska. Here’s my story on the move that’s running at Kansas.com and in Wednesday’s Eagle on the subject – I talked with MIAA commish Bob Boerigter, Pittsburg State AD Jim Johnson and longtime MIAA official Dwight Neibling, who had an interesting experience in Northern Sun country last year – and provided the pic that you see above.
Here’s links that could serve MIAA fans as a primer on the two leagues their favorite schools are now hooked up with:
It’s an interesting shift – unites arguably the best best two football leagues in all of D2. Speaking of which, Pittsburg State landed three players on the NCAA D2 preseason All-American team.
PS. Brittany Howard, I salute you. What an amazing voice – and it’s making my summer.
