I’m live blogging from Hartman Arena in Park City for the KCAC men’s and women’s finals. Men’s championship starts at 6 and is between McPherson (19-12) and Sterling (20-10). Women’s final is at 8 between No. 13 Sterling (26-4) and No. 6 Kansas Wesleyan (30-2). Nice crowd for Mac for the men’s game, although several of the Warriors’ football players showed up dressed as … bananas. This should be fun.
Sterling starters: Candace Ewert, Erica Herman, Cami Racette, Britany Gasper, Madison Lucas
KWU starters: Montric Santee, Stephanie Frost, Shelby Babcock, LaCole Wilkinson, Danielle Ekno
10:00, 1st half Sterling 16, KWU 16 breakaway layup by SC’s Laura Patrick ties the score up
HALFTIME KWU 32, Sterling 31 Stephanie Frost leads ‘Yotes with 8 points, Madison Lucas leads SC with 8 points.
15:00, 2nd half KWU 47, Sterling 38 Frost has 12 points, Shelby Babcock 10 for KWU, who are on verge of blowing this one open
3:30, 2nd half KWU 66, Sterling 55 KWU’s guards are too fast, and Frost is too much in the post.
FINAL KWU 74, Sterling 59
Mac starting lineup: Aaron Frazier, Trent Severs, Samson Shivers, Jake Reinhardt, Jordan Crawford
Sterling starting lineup: Zach Goodrich, Trent Stutzman, Zach Poole, Cody Brazelton, Kenny McGrath
Okay I’ll give this to the Sterling football team … 50 dudes jumping up and down screaming I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN over and over again can be a little intimidating. I like it.
14:00, 1st half McPherson 9, Sterling 8 Goodrich and Shivers trade 3s on back-to-back possessions, both teams starting to warm up.
8:30, 1st half Sterling 18, McPherson 17 Basically, you get a bucket and it gives your team the lead. Three by Mac’s Chris Crawford answered with a three from Sterling’s Zach Poole, who is playing a heck of a game so far.
4:30, 1st half Sterling 24, McPherson 19 Little bit of a cold stretch for both teams but Warriors get a little breathing room by hitting free throws.
HALFTIME McPherson 31, Sterling 31 Shivers hits a three at halftime buzzer to give Mac lead at break. Both teams went through some cold stretches in first half, which you can probably blame on nerves. Kudos to Mac for not letting the game get away from them when they got down five at 24-19 before storming back to take the lead at 29-28 after two free throws from Severs. Was just getting ready to say Shivers needed to get going before he hit that shot … which was overturned on review to a 2-pointer.
15:30 2nd half Sterling 44, McPherson 35 Sterling is getting hot here, two 3s from Poole and one from Goodrich plus Cody Brazelton coming alive in post.
12:32 2nd half Sterling 50, McPherson 38 Poole hits four threes in a row. He is on fire. 21 points … but he just got called for his fourth foul. Has hit six 3s.
9:00 2nd half Sterling 57, McPherson 38 It’s getting ugly
5:00 2nd half Sterling 67, McPherson 50 This one’s about over. I’ll come back with a final score unless something crazy happens.
FINAL Sterling 77, McPherson 62
