And there you go. For the first time since 1991, the top three spots in the NJCAA football poll are occupied by the same conference. Fittingly, the Jayhawk Conference’s top rival, the SWJCFC out of Texas, was the last league to do it. I’ve talked to Butler’s Troy Morrell and Jayhawk commish Bryce Roderick for a story in tomorrow’s Eagle, so make sure to check that out. Until then, here’s a few things to think about that they pointed out to me.
-These schools are all yet to play each other and will do so in the next month.
-The top two teams out of the 3 will likely play twice, once in regular season and again in the playoffs
-They could very well beat each other up to the point where they’re all out of the national title race. Or…
-If Hutchinson proves it’s the top dog, the national championship game will most definitely be at Gowans Stadium in December for the 2nd Salt City Bowl
-If either Coffeyville or Butler can make it out, the national title game more than likely moves to Pittsburg State University for the Citizens Bank Bowl, the same place the title game was at last year when Cam Newton and Blinn beat Fort Scott in a thriller.
-The most important thing to remember is each team controls it’s own destiny because they all get to play. And that’s the way it should be.
I’m out. TA.
