ESU baseball grabs No. 1 in new poll

I don’t know if this should come as a suprise, but the Emporia State baseball team is opening up the season as No. 1 in at least one poll — the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. I wouldn’t be surprised if they catch this spot in a couple of more polls before things get started, either. With that pitching back … they’re gonnna be tough to beat. And then there’s Kenny Burkhead. And then there’s Bob Fornelli. Here’s the full release from ESU and the Top 25 rankings after the jump … Happy Holidays:

The Emporia State baseball team will open the 2010 season atop the Colliegiate Baseball Newspaper Pre-season poll. ESU comes in, in front of Florida Southern and UC-San Diego, who they defeated in last year’s national semi-final. Last year’s National Championship Lynn is ranked 10th in the nation.

Central Missouri is ranked 11th, while Abilene Christian is 13th and Angelo State is 21st from the South Central Region.

The Hornets went 49-14 last year and advanced to the National Championship game where they fell 2-1 to Lynn in Cary, N.C.
