A couple of ladies picked up the slack in the MIAA and the KCAC this week, with Pittsburg State’s Deprice Taylor winning MIAA player of the week honors and Sterling’s Ashley Kraft receiving the same award in the KCAC.
Taylor, a 5-foot-9 junior from Detroit, averaged 14.5 points, 4 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of wins and Kraft averaged 19 points and seven rebounds in blowout wins over Saint Mary and Bethel.
So here’s what I’ve been wondering: Do you think a player like Kraft could help an MIAA school? It’s always interesting to me when I see players on the small college level — NAIA and DII in particular — and wonder how their games would translate and if there is really that big of a difference. Sometimes I think there is and sometimes I don’t. In Kraft’s case I think she’d be more than a role player if she played for, say, Emporia State, but I don’t think she would dominate like she does in the KCAC.
So let me know what you think.
NEWMAN NEWS
Found this in my inbox today, so it looks like they moved pretty fast to fill this spot:
The Newman University Athletics Department announced a press conference to be held Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. in the Childs Conference Center to introduce its new Head Volleyball Coach.
All media are invited to attend for their first look at the future of Newman University volleyball.
Having been around Newman AD Vic Trilli for a minute or two, I know he’s not prone to bad hires. Will be interested to see who he got for this spot.
I’m out.
