No. 11 Wichita State plays Oral Roberts on Saturday with a chance to improve to 9-0 and match the program’s record for a best start.

1920-21

Coach: Wilmer Elfrink

Fairmount College started the season on Jan. 14 with a 43-30 win over Washburn to start its 9-0 run. Washburn ended the winning streak with a 29-21 win in Topeka.

2004-05

Coach: Mark Turgeon

WSU won four road games on its way to a 9-0 start, at Austin Peay, Drake, Providence and Tulsa. Manhattan ended the fun with a 64-59 win at Koch Arena.

2006-07

Coach: Turgeon

The Shockers rose to No. 8 in the national rankings with wins at George Mason, LSU and Syracuse.  What appeared to be a dream followup to the Sweet 16 unraveled with four straight losses, starting   with New Mexico and Southern Cal in Las Vegas.

2012-13

Coach: Gregg Marshall

A 53-51 win at VCU in the second game of the season propelled the Shockers. They also defeated DePaul and Iowa and won at Air Force. A trip to Tennessee and a 69-60 loss ended the run.
