Wichita State adds a guard

Guard Corey Henderson Jr. visited Wichita State on Thursday and Friday, taking in practices both days, and committed on Sunday afternoon.

His commitment fills a crucial need for the Shockers, who lost freshman point D.J. Bowles to a heart condition earlier this fall.

“He liked the intensity, the bond, the chemistry,” said his father and Episcopal School of Dallas coach Corey Henderson. “The practices were very intense, a lot of teaching, very hands on, a lot of corrections being made.”

Henderson (6-foot-3) can play both guard spots. He played the point as a junior and will do so as a senior, his father said. Rivals.com ranks him a three-star prospect.

“He makes things happen offensively,” his father said. “He has a great handle and really good vision.”

Henderson joins Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy forward Rashard Kelly and Sunrise Christian Academy forward Zach Brown as orally committed to WSU. They can sign beginning Nov. 13.
