Wichita State’s major-league alumni boomed a bit this season. Eight Shockers spent time in the bigs, up from four in 2010 and five in 2012.

The high mark for WSU is 10 in 1998. The stars of the early 1980s were winding down their careers and they converged with the big names from the late 1980s and 1990s for a peak.

The 1993 season kicked off the strongest era in the majors for WSU – it averaged 8.1 players from 1993-1998. Nine Shockers played in the majors in 1993, the second-highest total: Carter, O’Brien, C Rick Wrona, C Eric Wedge, P David Haas, Lansing, Green, Meares, P Greg Brummett.
This season’s Shocker connection could also include Wedge, now Seattle’s manager, and Boston coach Arnie Beyeler.
