Wichita State gets healthier

Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall is working with something closer to a full roster as Monday’s exhibition game against Pittsburg State approaches.

The four Shockers who didn’t play in Shocker Madness (Oct. 25) or a scrimmage with South Dakota State (Oct. 28) returned to practice on Tuesday. Guard Demetric Williams had been in and out of workouts as his left ankle recovered from surgery in August. Junior Chadrack Lufile missed time recovering from a dislocated right shoulder. Sprained ankles hobbled freshmen Fred VanVleet and Zach Bush.

“Most of them look close to 100 percent,” Marshall said. “Demetric is looking really good physically, and he’s played well. The shoulder is still bothering (Chadrack) a little bit. The ankle still bothers Fred. He’s fighting through it.”

The news isn’t all good. Guard Tekele Cotton strained his back picking up a weight recently, Marshall said, and is wearing a brace and dealing with pain.

“We got four guys back and lost him a little bit,” Marshall said. “He doesn’t look well.”
