The MVC is setting itself up for a season-long debate – is it better for two or three teams to separate themselves or is it better for the conference race to be more inclusive. For now, the parity is having one happy benefit. RPIs are improving as MVC teams beat each other up.
Before MVC play started, five teams ranked in the top 100 of the RPI and three carried unsighty rankings of 200 or worse. After three games, one more team is in the top 100 (Missouri State) and two remain below 200. Six MVC teams are better off now in the RPI than they were 10 days ago. Evansville is up 99 places. Illinois State moved up 93 spots. That removes both from the horrible loss category.
Evansville – No. 252 (entering MVC play) to No. 153
Illinois State – No. 216 to No. 123
Southern Illinois – No. 318 to No. 267
Missouri State – No. 110 to No. 73
Creighton – No. 13 to No. 20
Drake – No. 90 to No. 89
UNI – No. 4 to No. 22
WSU – No. 49 to No. 28
Indiana State – No. 36 to No. 70
Bradley – No. 190 to No. 230
