A view into WSU’s visit with Perry Ellis

Heights senior forward Perry Ellis.

Here’s the report on Tuesday night’s visit to the Ellis house, home of Heights senior basketball player Perry Ellis, by Wichita State coaches. Fonda Ellis, Perry’s mother, provides the recap:

  • Coaches Gregg Marshall, Chris Jans and Dana Ford represented the Shockers. They spent about 2 hours, 30 minutes at the house.
  • The coaches gave a Power Point presentation showing WSU’s improvement in recent seasons, topped by the school-record 29 wins (29-8) in 2010-11.
  • Marshall highlighted his graduation rate, telling the Ellises all 12 of his WSU seniors graduated.
  • The Ellis family asked questions about housing, academics, Perry’s position on the court and areas where coaches think Perry needs to improve.
  • A video of Antoine Carr’s senior night drew a link between two Heights greats. Carr had his jersey retired that night and scored a school-record 47 points against Southern Illinois. “It was quite a touching moment,” Fonda Ellis wrote in an e-mail.
  • After the talk, everybody had chocolate cake and strawberry cake, Perry’s favorites.

Ellis already had visits from Kansas and Kansas State coaches. Kentucky  is next, coming Friday. After that, Perry will decide which schools he wants to visit before making his decision.
