Wichita State first baseman Johnny Coy is having himself a month in the past few days for the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League. Coy went 7 for 8 with nine RBIs and two home runs in Thursday’s doubleheader against Thunder Bay. On Friday, he drove in three more runs with a double.
Coy, a junior, is WSU’s most important returning bat, so it’s encouraging to see him tearing up one of the better summer leagues. In 25 games, Coy is hitting .308 with 30 RBIs, eight doubles and six home runs. He is fourth in the Northwoods in RBIs – the top four are at 40-plus games.
