Putting together Wichita State’s basketball schedule

WSU ticket

It’s time for that annual exercise of cobbling together the Shocker basketball schedule. Here is what we know (home games in bold):

Nov. 22 – vs. UConn in Maui Invitational

Nov. 23 – vs. Michigan State/Chaminade in Maui Invitational

Nov. 24 – Maui Invitational

Nov. 29 – vs. UMKC (Side note: The Roos are moving most of their home games to Swinney Recreation Center on campus. It seats 1,700. I wonder if that will affect the series in the future.)

Dec. 4 – at San Diego State (MVC-MWC Challenge)

Dec. 18 – vs. LSU at Shreveport, La. (Shockers go for a sweep in the three-game series)

Dec. 21 – vs. Tulsa (Still guessing this will be at Intrust Bank Arena. No confirmation from WSU)

Feb. 18-20 – vs. BracketBuster, TBA (Utah State’s return visit put off until 2011-12)

From the Basketball Travelers board, we can tell WSU is looking for home games. It is considering going on the road once in exchange for two home games. That is an approach WSU hasn’t used often in recent years, outside of the UMKC series. That may be an indication of how tight the market is for guarantee games.

Looking at the board their are teams out there, i.e. Missouri, Marshall, etc. Would it not be better to work something out with one of them than to play a D2 or poor D1 just to add a win?

I doubt WSU is looking for more road games. That schedule appears to be plenty tough enough as is. However, it might get to the point where something like that happens, especially if if helps out a future schedule.
