P.J. in the playoffs

Al Vargo, our Hungarian correspondent, reports that P.J. Couisnard, Wichitan Manny Dies and the Soproni Beer Devils begin the playoffs on Wednesday against top-seeded Pecs Pannonpower. It is a best-of-5 series.

Al reports: There’s a lot of celebrating on the Soproni website. This is a big deal–Soproni is a small-market, low-budget club. It is in the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

Ouch in Omaha

After three weeks of speculation, center Kenton Walker moves his departure from Creighton from rumor to fact. Shocker fans will, of course, celebrate anything bad that happens to the Bluejays. From an MVC perspective, it’s not good. This is a significant loss for the Bluejays and will likely end up hurting the Valley’s RPI.

It may make beating Creighton easier, and that’s part of WSU’s goal. It may also make any victories over the Jays less meaningful. That’s jumping ahead a lot, but for now that’s the take. Creighton isn’t devastated. It should be one of the Valley’s top teams in 2009-10. It is no longer the automatic choice (along with Northern Iowa) in the top two.
