CBI: Stanford vs. WSU

  • Reggie Chamberlain did not practice Friday or Saturday. I would be surprised if he plays Monday. That means more Toure Murry at the point and probably more David Kyles at the 2. The way Kyles played in practice Saturday, that might work out well. He made play after play – steals, nice passes, scoring, rebounding.
  • Murry is practicing. His shoulder appears to be fine.
  • Stanford is supposed to arrive today and practice at WSU on Sunday.
  • WSU has not played Stanford. Cardinal junior Drew Shiller played eight minutes against WSU during the 2005-06 season when he played for San Francisco.
  • Stanford is the only Pac-10 team WSU has not played. WSU is 18-21 against Pac-10 teams.
  • I talked with Rick Giles, president of the company that runs the CBI, to try to get a read on how the semfinals work. The CBI seeds teams for that round. He said “everything matters” which means attendance is part of the equation (not surprising). My guess for Monday is at least 8,500. Even my mother, who hasn’t been to a WSU game in years, wants to go. Using that as a barometer, I’m calling for a good crowd. If WSU draws that, I think it has a good chance of playing at home should it continue to win. Nobody else was close to WSU in the first round.
