Super Regional, Game 3

FSU 11, WSU 4, a final: The Shockers go down in order in the ninth. FSU celebrates at second base. The Seminoles play Stanford on Saturday.

FSU 11, WSU 4, bottom of the ninth: FSU has scored 11 and stranded 16 runners.

FSU 10, WSU 4, bottom of the eighth: WSU needs six runs and has six outs remaining. FSU’s Ryan Strauss has been very good in relief, holding the Shockers scoreless since coming in in the fourth. He has allowed two runners, one via walk and one by hit.
FSU 9, WSU 4, bottom of the seventh: Posey smacks a two-run homer off the scoreboard.

FSU 7, WSU 4, after six: WSU wasted a leadoff walk by Workman. No. 9 hitter Kenny Williams leads off the seventh, which may be WSU’s best shot to get closer. The bottom three spots of WSU’s order are 5 for 32 this weekend.

FSU 7, WSU 4, after four: The Seminoles keep scoring. Conor Gillaspie will lead off the fifth for WSU, which is not a good way for the Shockers to score. It is the second time he will come up with nobody on base.

FSU 6, WSU 4, after three: Tyler Weber drives in two runs with single, thanks to good coaching at third, speed and lazy defense. Josh Workman scored from first, with Gene Stephenson waving him all the way. Stephenson correctly detected a casual attitude by right fielder Jack Rye, who lobbed the ball into second baseman Tommy Oravetz, who had no idea Workman was still running. He scored without a throw.

Bartman update: The FSU fan, wearing a No. 4 football jersey, was escorted out of the stadium, according to FSU officials.

FSU 6, WSU 2, after two: WSU benefits from a Bartman moment. An FSU fan reached over the fence to catch a foul ball that third baseman Stuart Tapley had a shot at. Andy Dirks homered on the next pitch.

FSU 6, WSU 0, after one: WSU leaves the bases loaded and wastes a great chance to regain some of the momentum.

FSU 6, WSU 0, bottom of the first: WSU’s worst fears about starter Anthony Capra were not bad enough. He lasted two outs and gave up six runs, three hits and three walks. He was bouncing curveballs and throwing everything high, which made WSU’s complaints from the dugout look silly. The Seminoles shredded through WSU’s No. 2 and No. 3 starters in less than three innings each.

One game for Omaha. WSU has not been in this enviable position since Saturday. That did not turn out so well. Apparently, something about the Shockers has angered the Seminoles, a topic Tallahassee Democrat columnist Steve Ellis addresses.

I’m not sure what the fuss is about. The injury to FSU shortstop Tony Delmonico, which apparently started the hard feelings, is on the second baseman who made a poor throw to lead Delmonico into the runner. Dusty Coleman’s slide into Delmonico later in the game didn’t seem out of line, just an aggressive move in a big game. WSU has just as much, if not more, reason to complain about Tyler Holt’s slide across home plate and into catcher Tyler Weber in Saturday’s game.

If Coleman’s slide is the issue, then FSU coach Mike Martin needs to ask himself why he left Delmonico in the game, and in harm’s way at less than 100 percent, after he took four stitches, sprained ankle and stumbled coming out of the dugout before limping to short.
